Random thoughts fill my head most of the time. I work at focusing on the positive and downplaying the negative. There is a battle going on in my mind. It helps me focus on the positive when I am creating. I set up art stations in my house. I also have my guitar at the ready when I feel a song welling up inside. These are my tools for healing from what seems like a lifetime of abuse.
Those of us who have dealt with trauma early in life have a stress response to certain triggers. We are reactive rather than responsive to life in general. We feel broken and irreparable. I understand that feelings are not necessarily facts, however, when I am in my fight or flight mode it is difficult to think rationally. Art & music are my therapeutic tools to keep me focused on the positive. They are my voice when I have no words. I’ve learned how important creative expression truly is for the soul.
